The Drafts

Drafts are said to descend from the medieval “great horse.” The strength, beauty and temperament of these horses create a winning combination of equine excellence, and despite their impressive and sometimes intimidating bulk, the draft breeds are universally blessed with docile dispositions. For centuries, draft horses have completed the strenuous work of clearing and plowing fields, pulling heavy wagons, and hauling logs in forests. No matter what the task, the draft horse has risen to the occasion and steadily and quietly done its job for humans, earning respect and admiration along the way. Sadly, when work can no longer be done these gentle souls often land in auctions where they are prime candidates for slaughter, as value is reduced to a price per pound.

Rosemary Farm has been home to numerous Drafts over the years, and counts a dozen of these gentle giants (and their smaller variations) in the herd family today.
