“A Force of Nature”

This powerful and intelligent Percheron mare was saved from slaughter, after being dumped at auction with her offspring and her herd mates, all unwanted throwaways from a camp. They were sent without even halters on, she just had a piece of twine tied around her throat that dangled down, getting caught under her feet, choking her. Treated like wild horses, they were herded onto the sales floor as a group, and they went to a dealer, a ‘kill buyer’, who ships to a slaughter house in Canada.

Rosemary Farm founder Dawn Robyn tracked the mare down before she got on the truck, and saved her life. Molly and Dawn took some time to form a friendship, and by making some phone calls, Dawn discovered that Molly had some dangerous behaviors. Keeping her safe in sanctuary for life was the best outcome the powerful mare could hope for, and she and Dawn have formed a strong bond. Together these two ‘lead mares’ have supervised many other horses coming to The Sanctuary, and Molly rules over the largest herd of ~30 horses, alongside her co-herd leader Finn.

Molly is:

• a black Percheron mare
• welcomed to The Sanctuary in November 2009, a member of the 10 Year Club
• a herd leader of Molly & Finn’s Herd
• Staydopted, with lifetime support by a kind donor
• fun fact; nearly died in a freak accident involving a swamp, a firetruck and a lot of humans, but is fine now!
