NIZHONI

“Navajo Beauty”

This petite dun Mustang was given a Navajo name meaning 'beautiful' and she most certainly is! Often called 'Nia' for short, she is the second of two Gila mustangs welcomed in the summer of 2018. Both Nia and Chante came East following a huge Mustang rescue in an operation called "The Hallelujah Horses" with many rescues across the country stepping up to take a few of the 907 horses in need (read more here).

Nia is the spitting image of another mustang here, Senna, and the two recognize each other as family. Often together, their personalities are quite different; Nia was bottle raised and has a trust of humans, while Senna clearly did not have as positive a history. Both are happy and healthy here at The Sanctuary, part of a small group of American Mustangs that live safely and happily on their own terms, on the mountain.

Sponsor the beautiful Nia and you will be providing a rare mustang the opportunity to simply be a horse!

Nizhoni is:

• a grey dun Gila Mustang mare
• welcomed to The Sanctuary in July 2018, part of the ‘Hallelujah Horses’ rescue effort
• a member of The Mockingjays herd
• a permanent herd member, seeking Sponsorship or Staydoption™
• fun fact; born with an odd lump on the side of her nose, no vet knows why!
