HOLLY
“The Jewel”
Holly is:
• a bay grade filly
• welcomed to The Sanctuary in December 2022
• transferred to Bay State Equine Rescue in June 2024
• fun fact; Holly has long ears for a horse, leading everyone to suspect she was perhaps a warmblood! But turns out she will be pony size!
Holly’s Story
Holly is beautiful young filly, just two years old when she was rescued at a December auction in 2022, where the kill buyer was the only other bidder for her. This surprises some, but live auctions do not always have enough buyers in attendance, and the dealers who sell to slaughter are the last ones buying. There is not a thing wrong with her, she is a dreamboat, and was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Holly is a super sweet bay grade filly, a mystery crossbreed, who is growing but will likely remain a large pony size. As of late 2023, one year after her rescue, she is 14 hh of ALL BEAUTIFUL, with her perfect head, white socks, and black mane and tail. She has a good brain, calm demeanor, and strong desire to get along, and now has her whole future in front of her. She has become besties with the slightly older filly Sunnie, and the pair are often seen romping in Stardust Meadows with the rest of their band.
Holly has been getting ground work lessons and gentling. This allows the crew to provide care, food, and whatever she may need to remain safe and healthy. Soon she will know how to wear a blanket, in case she needs one during the winter. Blanket training is also a wonderful pre-training step towards future saddle training! Willing partnerships are begun with this kind of loving, easy care, and Holly is very easy to love.
