DOMINIC
Dominic is Staydopted with love by Joann H. since 2023.
“Blue Suede Shoes”
The swoon-worthy Dominic is a black Gypsy Vanner gelding, with a thick mane and adorable little face, thick feathers on his legs that look like bell bottoms, and a slow swagger when he walks that just drives women wild. Humans, that is! He has a steady girlfriend of the equine variety and only has eyes for her, and what eyes! Dreamy heavy lids and thick eyelashes…well he seems ready to droll a sexy hello in his next breath.
Dominic joined Rosemary Farm as part of a trio of horses, in the summer of 2019. This included Pixie, a chestnut thoroughbred mare, who Dom met when they were both yearlings, and they have shared a crush on each other since. Dominic is slowly learning how to be social in a healthy manner. He can be….willful. He is often sweet and docile, but that alternates with occasional bursts of temper. Dom was kept as a stallion when he was young, towards possible future breeding (this was before he joined the Sanctuary), and stallions are nearly always kept alone. This social isolation during formative years may be connected to his initial social challenges when he first arrived. Now, having lots of other horses, and lots of space to move have been very good for Dominic, who is settling in. Every day, this handsome hunk can be found beside his lady love, on the periphery of Molly & Finn’s herd, and both are getting regular training and handling. It’s very important that the trainers must accept and work with a horse as they present themselves today, and respond with kindness and clarity, to build trust and safe handling. Dominic is a powerful physical force wrapped in a teddy bear body, and he requires expert care.
Dominic absolutely loves visitors, and loves all the ladies that swoon over him. With his thick mane and feathers, he is easy to spot out in the field, but often he is right by the gate, ready to say hello!
