COOPER

“The Heir Apparent”

Cooper is a beautiful bay gelding who is a beloved member of the main herd. He was saved at auction as a yearling beside his mother, Clover, in 2012. A wild thing without any early handling, both mother and son were nearly sold for slaughter, but a bidder for Rosemary Farm intervened to save their lives and keep them together. They were the lucky few who got on the trailer that day for Rosemary Farm, and a blessed life.

Cooper and Clover are lookalike horses, both dark bay, and both appear to have Quarter Horse and Morgan blood. The gregarious colt was a favorite of herd leaders Molly and Finn, and was allowed special privileges. Cooper became tall and handsome, and received the gentling, training and handling start that all of the young horses do at the Sanctuary. As Cooper grew, he looked remarkably like the herd leader Finn, and still does to this day. It is possible they are related, as both were rescued at the same auction house, three years apart, and both were dumped as unhandled, unwanted yearling colts.

As he matured at the Sanctuary, Cooper caught the eye of a wonderful adopter, and he moved for several years to another home. In 2023, Cooper returned to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, and quickly reunited with his herd family. It is possible that Cooper will inherit the herd leadership one day. He has a gentle soul, calm demeanor, and is strongly bonded to the other horses. Since his return, his training has resumed, and he is thoughtful and a pleasure to be around. When with the horses, he is often photographed standing very near his mother Clover, who is one of Molly’s dearest friends.

If you could ask him, he would surely say; It’s good to be home. Be a part of Cooper’s world – Sponsor Cooper today!
