Terms of Adoption

 

Review our Terms of Adoption to ensure you understand the program requirements, conditions of ownership, and your obligations to the horse and to Rosemary Farm. We recognize not everyone may want the extended relationship we have with our adopters. That’s okay, but we only adopt to those who understand and agree to our program requirements.

  • Adopter must reside within a four (4) hour radius of Rosemary Farm Sanctuary. This is required to facilitate visits by potential adopters to meet horses and visits to the adopter’s home during the foster period.

  • Adopters must agree to a foster period prior to adoption to ensure fit.

  • Adopters must agree to provide annual updates on the adopted equine for life, including photos and a wellness report.

  • Adopters must agree to provide the adopted equine with the following per the generally accepted standard of care and frequency as indicated in the adoption contract – vaccinations, vet exams, dental, farrier/trimmer, deworming.

  • Adopters must agree with all restrictions placed on equines adopted from Rosemary Farm – NO breeding, NO leasing, NO resale, NO trading, NO gifting, NO working (eg lesson or trail horse), NO living without at least one equine companion, NO carrying or pulling beyond weight limits.

  • Adopters must agree to provide updated information on the location of the equine and notify Rosemary Farm whenever the equine changes location.

  • Adopters must be at least 21 years old at the time of the adoption.

  • Adopters must be financially and physically able to care for the adopted equine.

  • Adopters must provide farrier, veterinary and personal references.

  • Adopters agree that if there is any issue preventing them from meeting the terms of adoption, Rosemary Farm is to be contacted for support, which will be given freely, up to and including returning the equine to Rosemary Farm.
