Farm Manager
Full Time Hourly Position
The primary responsibilities of the Farm Manager are to oversee the facilities of the Sanctuary, including six barns, multiple run-ins, grounds, fencing and water systems, to supervise employees in performing daily work, and to manage the overall operation of the farm. This is a staff management position; Farm Hands and Barn Hands report to this role.
Responsibilities
Facilities Operations
Ensure hay is distributed to all fields, barns and run-ins daily
Ensure clean water is distributed to all fields, barns and run-ins daily
Ensure staging areas are supplied with hay and bedding daily
Ensure facilities are a clean, safe, accessible and welcoming environment for all
Develop and oversee facilities maintenance calendar of daily, weekly, monthly and other periodic activities
Perform or oversee scraping and cleaning of open barn areas
Manage inventory of hay and bedding; work with suppliers to order replenishments and coordinate delivery as needed to ensure availability when needed
Manage inventory of equipment (UTVs, skid steer, tractor, trucks, trailers); ensure maintained in good working condition
Inspect and repair fencing and gates periodically or as needed
Perform or oversee burial of equines.
Ensure all staff adheres to workplace safety requirements
Staff Management
Hire, train and terminate staff
Schedule all work shifts
Review and approve all timesheets
Give feedback on job performance and coach on improvements
Resolve problems and manage issues escalated by staff and/or volunteers
Recognize employees for good work, anniversaries and accomplishments
Other
Perform daily hands-on work as needed, including but not limited to hay unloading, cleaning, feeding, watering
Support other Sanctuary activities as needed
Qualifications
At least five (5) years progressive experience managing large facilities and at least three (3) years experience managing staff
Willing and able to perform all responsibilities and duties
Experience driving multiple pieces of equipment including: tractor, skid steer, UTV/ATV
Experience performing basic equipment repairs
Experience performing basic carpentry tasks
Welcoming and tolerant personality with a sense of humor
Able to effectively prioritize responsibilities, organize workload and respond promptly to urgent situations.
Inspired to learn and improve and open to taking direction
Excellent communication skills and willingness to have open honest discussions
Demonstrates and maintains a positive and respectful attitude
Strong team player always willing to help and develop others
Strong customer service mindset and high expectations for quality
Able to perform strenuous physical labor, and consistently lift and carry at least 50 pounds unassisted
Capable of working in harsh/all weather conditions
Willing and able to work weekend and holiday shifts
Willing and able to work long overtime hours in emergencies
Prior animal rescue experience a plus
Must have the legal right to work in the United States
Schedule
7:00am - 4:00pm with one hour lunch break
Five (5) days a week including at least one weekend day
