Barn Hand
Full Time or Part Time Hourly Position
The primary responsibility of the Barn Hand is to maintain one or more of the barns and equine areas at the Sanctuary and ensure a clean and safe living environment for our equines. Ideally you will be assigned to 1-2 barns and be able to take full responsibility for those spaces each day. This entry level role is often the first position held by a newcomer to the Sanctuary as it allows you to learn the ropes. The position can be full-time or part-time, and once trained, is a great option for working over vacation or school breaks.
Responsibilities
Clean stalls
Set-up hay and water for stalls
Clean barn aisles, walls and windows, grain and tack rooms, and common areas
Prepare barn staging areas with hay, bedding, etc.
Unload and stack hay and bedding deliveries
Pick paddocks and walkways
Other activities as assigned
Qualifications
Willing and able to perform all responsibilities and duties
Inspired to learn and improve
Demonstrates and maintains a positive and respectful attitude
Able to work independently with limited supervision
Strong team player always willing to help others
Able to perform strenuous physical labor, and consistently lift and carry at least 50 pounds unassisted
Capable of working in harsh/all weather conditions
Willing and able to work weekend and holiday shifts
No experience necessary but prior equine or farm experience a plus
Must have the legal right to work in the United States
Schedule
Full time shifts are 7:00am - 4:00pm with a one hour lunch break
Part time shifts start at 7:00am (morning shift) or 1:00pm (afternoon shift) for 3-4 hours
Both full time and part time shifts include at least one weekend day
Compensation
Starting wage of $15+/hour based on experience, with opportunity for increases with excellent performance
Paid time off, sick days, holiday pay
