“The Noble Gentleman”

If you knew you could not love someone for long, would you fall in love anyway?

We often do here, giving our hearts and all our energy to every equine we welcome, whether it is for 11 years, or 11 weeks.

Like Ranger.

The Sanctuary bid a sudden goodbye to our very senior, handsome Appaloosa gelding, welcomed late summer. He was in his 30’s, his condition was dire, it was an uphill battle…but what a wonderful spirit he had! And what a recovery he was making! Ranger was gaining weight and health, happy and loved here, enjoying his late night soaked meal as always. But no one could make him young again, or make all the old parts of his body function, and the day came to send him with love, over the rainbow bridge. The kind veterinarian here was reaassuing; it was not re-feeding issues and helping him cross over was the last great kindness to be given.

No one was ready or expecting this, but knew when this skinny horse was welcomed, without most of his teeth, rumored to be 37 years old, that this was his last home. That honor, and that pain, is carried by the Sanctuary team. Thanks to everyone who cared about an old horse, for helping keep the most important part of the promise that was made.
