KAJI
“Warmblood Fire”
Warmbloods are a dynamic category of big horse, with powerful physical beauty, developed for impressive equine sports, fiery and breathtaking. And what a breathtaking mover Kaji is! It can also be more of a challenge to manage that energy, and when one starts a horse under saddle very young, it must be done so carefully, or the horse can be damaged for life. This is why the saying 'it is never the horses' fault' is so important. The pressure of early riding and showing can break a youngster, and without words to speak, a horse can only say 'no' with actions. Sadly, Kaji was overwhelmed as a young horse. This big, well bred warmblood gelding could have had a wonderful, long riding career but instead suffered damage and mental duress, and was forced to say NO with his body. He got a reputation in the small circle of warmblood owners before he was fully mature, and no one was going to give him a chance.
Kaji’s owner was dumping him at auction instead of fixing him. We took him in instead. No horse deserves that, much less a young horse with so much try.
It was Kaji's luck to be accepted to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, where he was given time off to finish growing, and showed everyone what a sweet and caring big boy he could be. After nearly two years of rest, he was re-examined. Kaji's latest radiographs have confirmed the presence of kissing spine however there are new surgeries and therapies to potentially help with this issue. Further, it has been shown that many horses, even ones being actively ridden, show kissing spine when examined, so there is new hope. Like other young adults, this 11 year old nearly black beauty is physical and friendly and playful, with important friendships and a full schedule of his own activities every day! He has a safe future that may include extended ground games or careful re-starting for riding, or he may be a companion horse, valued for who he is, or Kaji may remain with Rosemary Farm. As long as he is protected and living a fulfilled life as a horse, he is a 'success'.
Kaji’s story is still being written – be a part of it and Sponsor Kaji today!
