CLEOPATRA
“Panda Pie”
Cleopatra, more generally called Cleo, is a very quiet beauty, and has grown up at The Sanctuary from a gangly youngster to a tall black and white pinto mare, with a partial blue eye and beautiful 'eye shadow' ringing them. Rescued from a kill pen early in life, Cleo was surrendered to Rosemary Farm so she could grow up with other horses and the space to become agile. Unfortunately, Cleo has had a series of medical challenges that interrupted her progress.
First, as a 3 year old, she had a deep and painful dental infection, one that took months to clear, and lots of medical support to save her tooth (pulling out a tooth on a younger horse can sometimes break the jaw!). On the other side of her dental issue, Cleo began 'coming up lame', and what seemed one foot abscess turned into several, and finally X-rays revealed a 'keratoma' in her hoof, requiring surgery to remove. While the surgery is straightforward, the recovery takes nearly a year, most of that as stall rest, as the horse grows another hoof entirely! Just like many humans dealing with medical challenges, Cleo began to struggle with weight gain and depression as her convalescence dragged on. Finally, she was able to return to exercise and find happiness again with her friends.
In between these medical issues, Cleo was started under saddle and was even ridden in one of Rosemary Farm's Charity Rides! Today she has been sound for a year and is back in training (again). Whether she will remain at Rosemary Farm or find a forever home with a trusted adopter remains to be seen.
Visitors should be sure to say hello to the sweet and quiet Cleo; she is shy but she does appreciate being noticed! Sponsor Cleo today to support her training and healthy life at Rosemary Farm!
