BOWIE
“Let's Dance!”
It must be first stated that Bowie is a beautiful mover, a tribute to his purebred lines, the American Saddlebred. He floats! However, while horses are fast and powerful, they are also sensitive and fragile, and can be easily frightened if overwhelmed. And this beautiful teenage gelding was overwhelmed by the life he found himself in as a road buggy horse. In addition to being purebred, Bowie is unusually beautiful, with one blue eye, a deep bay coat, black mane and tail, and white highlights, all of which made him highly desirable to many who wanted more of him than he could give. And it was getting worse. Sold and re-sold, accumulating injuries and fear, he needed saving. Rosemary Farm partnered with the American Saddlebred Legacy to make that happen for him! What a joyous day for Bowie when he arrived at The Sanctuary, bringing along a new friend, another Saddlebred named Dooley who had been rescued in the same timeframe. It took time for both geldings to begin to relax and feel at home, and begin to really just ‘be a horse'.
Bowie's mind and body have largely recovered from his past and his playful nature has emerged. He can often be seen cavorting with his friends, his natural skill and agility simply beautiful to watch. Bowie is in transition, a window of time when The Sanctuary staff are still training and working with a horse, and the future is yet unknown. It is possible Bowie will be suited for adoption in the future, or that we determine remaining here is what is best for him. For now, he has found a lady love, the petite and beautiful Christine, and enjoys life with no expectations.
